House Meeting, History-Making in the UMC, ActionUpdates
On April 27th, a group of LUMC members and friends came together to break bread (or tortillas!) and share our deepest concerns and greatest hopes for our community, state, and world. It was a meaningful time of connecting with others who want to engage in social holiness work and be reminded that we are not alone in our efforts and our concerns.
We learned from Maki Somosot, organizer for Together Colorado, that there is a group of folks right here in Jefferson County who share similar values and have been working to advance human dignity for all our neighbors here in JeffCo and throughout our state – and we are ready to join them!
Two issues that rose to prominence in our discussion were immigration and homelessness. And while we all feel a little (or a lot!) overwhelmed with the national news cycle these days, we all have hope in our ability to act locally to protect immigrants and provide needed services and human dignity for our unhoused neighbors.
I’m excited to see how our work unfolds with Together Colorado in coming weeks and months! If you want to join us, reach out to me or Maddie Nichols and we’d be happy to share more and get you connected.
In other news…
Did you know last week marked a historic first anniversary for the UMC? On April 23-May 3, 2024, the General Conference made several historic decisions that removed discriminatory language and restrictions against our LGBTQIA+ siblings, paving the way for a fully inclusive United Methodist Church! Read more about it here.
