Social Holiness Updates and Opportunities: Global and Local

Global: In response to the atrocities happening in Gaza, the UMC General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) has put out an Action Alert encouraging United Methodists to contact our U.S. Representatives and urge them to support the Block the Bombs Act (H.R. 3565) that would ban the sale of lethal weapons being used in Israel’s genocidal campaign throughout the Middle East. Please sign on here. Then I encourage you to call your Representative’s office, as calls are given more attention than emails. It will only take 2 minutes of your time, and you can use the text from the GBCS Action Alert as a guiding script for your call! You can find your congressional members and their contact info here.

Local: The JeffCo Chapter of Together Colorado is working to support affordable housing for our neighbors here in Lakewood. Several LUMC members attended a meeting hosted here at the church on July 17 to strategize for support, and folks are organizing to attend the Lakewood City Council Meeting on August 25th and speak in favor of passing Comprehensive Zoning Reforms.
